The labour problem has always been there, and many countries have it but the media chose to focus on Qatar after it won the bid for hosting the world cup. In the current world, media play an important role in enlightening people about different issues that are happening or have happened in the different part of the world. Many people all over the world believes that the media exercise fairness while focusing on different issue, sometimes this may not be the case (Kamrava, 2012). As a result of Qatar winning the bid to organize the FIFA 2022 world cup, there are many allegations that have been made against Qatar. It is alleged that 2022 FIFA world Cup bid by Qatar was marred by issues of corruption and b ribery (Saxena, 2009). This has inspired the media to focus on the negative issue in Qatar in attempt to imply that Qatar is not in a good position to host 2022 FIFA world Cup. This paper seeks to outline and explain the reasons why the media should not focus on the labour issue in Qatar.There is a need for the media to exercise fairness while covering any subject since most people depend on greatly on the media for information, ideas and enlightenment. There is need for all the individuals, journalist, practicing in this field to always being committed to ensuring that the truth of the matter is maintained at all times (Rugh, 2004). There is also a need for the media to avoid a conflict of interest while covering any issue. Additionally, there is a need to ensure sensationalism, emphasizing on issues that are interesting, but vital to the general public (Rugh, 2004). Concerning the labour issue in Qatar, media has failed to exercising fairness, protecting the truth and avoiding con flict of interest. It is clear that the media has a hidden agenda that it aims to fulfill by focusing on the labour issue in Qatar. This is because; labour issue is a normal issue in any country and also there was no point of the media to until Qatar win the bid to organize the FIFA 2022 world cup for them to start focusing on the labour issue in the country (Kamrava, 2014). It is clear that this is only happening since the media have an ill intention concerning Qatar hosting the 2022 FIFA world cup. Various newspapers have been publishing malicious stories concerning the labour abuse in Qatar (Kamrava, 2012). The stories in various newspaper claims that there is mistreatment of migrant workers in Qatar. It is claimed, by the media, that private construction companies in Qatar are taking advantage of migrant workers and that there is an increasing number of workers losing their lives in the construction boom before the 2022 World Cup (Kamrava, 2014). By publishing such allegation, t he media aim at catching the attention of people from all corners of the world, in attempt to stop Qatar from hosting 2022 FIFA world cup. This is because; these allegations have no proof whatsoever (Saxena, 2009). Any company has its set rules and regulations that should be abide by all the employees. Any time employees sign a work contract; they have an obligation to obey all the set rules and regulation (Kamrava, 2014). Thus, it is unfair and hypocritical to claim that a company is mistreating its workers since they are directed to obey the rule and regulations governing them. Contrary to what is written in many newspapers, the ministry of labour in Qatar is determined to protect all workers, including migrant workers (Kamrava, 2012). At this time when there are so many constructions work before the 2022 World Cup, the minister of labour in Qatar, Saleh Al Khulaifi, has ensured that more inspectors have been recruited in order to increase checks and raids on construction compani es to ensure they adhere to labour laws (Saxena, 2009). Additionally, the ministry of labour has insured that more interpreters are employ in order to accelerate the treatment of grievance from migrant workers.False allegations have been published in some newspapers. In these allegations, it has been claimed that a number of workers have died, as a result of endemic illness and lack of food, overcrowding, unsanitary housing, accidents or of heart failu...
